Tips for documenting your family’s summer!

There’s something so dreamy and nostalgic about summer vacation as a kid. I remember staying up late and playing with the neighbor kids in the cul-de-sac in the everlasting Alaskan daylight, or climbing into my sleeping bag still sticky with s’more goo, riding my bike with a little transistor radio duct-taped to the handle bars. The list of quintessential summer images could go on and on— and thinking of your own images that come up for you is a great place to start when thinking about photographing your own family.

The Morning Routine

This was the winner of the 2025 Spring Raffle. I knew we were going to be a great fit the moment they said they wanted an in-home session while Grandma was visiting. We talked about their family's favorite time of day, their routines, and the light in their house, and we quickly realized that the sleepy-toddler-morning-wake-up session was going to be amazing. So when this sweet lady woke up, she was shy for a little bit-- but it wasn't long before she was raring to go and wouldn't stop long enough for anyone to deal with her dumpy-diaper.

Cozy Anchorage Newborn Photos

I walked into this session and instantly fell in love with the cozy vibes, the sweet grandparents (and all of Grandma's impressive homemade knits!), and the quiet awe these new parents shared. I felt so lucky to be a witness to it all.

Everyday In-Home Magic

I am on the other side of the newborn and toddler days now. Enough time has passed where I look at them with such a softness. I finally know and believe that these days go fast, which isn't always the feeling when you're in it! But now, I know that there are moments that won't last-- and these are the things I want to capture. If I was told I could only photograph one kind of session for the rest of my life, it would be this: in-home on a lazy weekend morning, capturing life, routine, and everyday magic.

Anchorage Grandparent Session

I love sessions that include Grandparents and think it is so important to take photos with people who are important to you. (Soap box moment here: I firmly believe these photos are for you right now, but one day they will be so special to your kids-- and I like to remind people of that when they say they don't want to be in photos.) This particular Grandma and Grandpa were so ready to play and have fun with their Grandkids and it was so much fun.

Saturday Snuggles and Paints

Photos that I tend to love the most are fly-on-the-wall type photos. The kinds where I feel like I didn't alter the scene that was unfolding right in front of me. The kind where it feels like the family forgot I was there, and they continued having their perfect, cozy Saturday morning.

Anchorage Bluff with 8-Month Old

I love any chance I get to photograph babies from the 3 to 9 month stage. The majority of the time, I am taking photos of newborns.
Of course that's lovely, but there is something so special about those middle months where a baby has so much personality, wrist rolls and knuckle dimples for days, and they are just the cuddliest little beings. I seriously cannot get enough and wish more people booked sessions for these ages.

Anchorage Cozy Newborn Session

The early winter months in Anchorage hold a special kind of magic. The first snow seems to quiet the whole world and I love the draw to slow down and be cozy. In a lot of ways, it is reminiscent to those early days at home with a newborn. I really love that this session seemed to capture that sense of hygge (the art of coziness) and quiet.

Maternity Session at the Anchorage Municipal Greenhouse

The Mann Leiser Memorial Greenhouse is an Anchorage gem and an amazing photo location! Chances are if you follow any photographer in Anchorage (maybe even Alaska!?) you've seen this spot show up on your social media. It is stunning in it's own right, but it is also my favorite weather back-up plan for photos.

Snowy Day Family Session

I love when families want to capture activities that they enjoy. Fun activities are one of the best ways to get those genuine, unposed moments that truly showcase the love and bond within a family. Add in a little record-setting snow and you’ve got a recipe for magic.
