Workshop:
Learn to Use Your Camera!

Documenting my family is one of my greatest joys, and I want that feeling for you too! It’s time to dust off that old DSLR in the back of your closet and make time for yourself. In this course you’ll learn how to use your camera with confidence, as well as basic photography principles that make images standout.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • I want you to be able to focus and enjoy yourself at the workshop, and would like to keep the first session a child-free space so you can really dive into the material. If you need to bring your child for the second session, that is more doable- just please let me know.

  • As long as your camera has a manual-mode, it will be fine. (I designed the class with digital photography in mind, but reach out if you have a film camera you’d like to use.) If your camera is really old, I’ll look up the manual ahead of time just to make sure I can assist you.

  • I’ve been a professional photographer for more than a decade now, and before that I was a teacher. I photograph hundreds of families each year (and my own children almost daily). I was recognized as the Best Photographer in the Best of Alaska contest two years ago.

Beyond all of that though, I am so passionate about documenting your daily life and I want to empower parents to be able to capture these fleeting memories for themselves.

  • I’m trying to keep the class small on purpose so we can really dive in and you can have some one-on-one time with me. I will cap the class at 15 participants.

  • I am looking forward to meeting each participant where they are. This course is designed for the beginner who has little photography experience, but the drive to learn.

  • You can rent cameras from Stewart’s Photo downtown— and might be a great option if you’re wanting to try before taking the plunge. Check with them and make reservations ahead of time.

    A camera is required.
