Winter is Coming... (and other obvious statements)

Winter is coming... which means you have to prepare yourself for everyone saying that and the inevitable change all Alaskans go through. (I'm talking about both the need to eat a ton of carbohydrates to store fat for winter and the transformation into a pale White Walker.

I got my winter coat out of the closet. I wasn't too pleased about it, but did at least take solace in the fact that it smelled somewhat musty. The way I see it is: a little bit of mustiness must mean the warm weather stayed for longer than it felt.

Not sure how I feel about this coat-thing.

I love the looks of this next photo.
There is something about a wood pile, neatly stacked, on an overcast and chilly day that makes me feel cozy and happy. And the Xtra-Tuffs at the ready point to a need to be cozy in the near future. I just feel this pic is quintessential Alaska.

Wood pile preparation.

As I sit and write this, my feet are cold. Ready for an upgrade of SmartWool socks and boots. Today will be the last day of Birkenstocks. I will put them away in the closet and hope they don't smell too musty when they return for summer.

 Last Day...
